When I wrote the story, in the course of my research, I found that the populace all speak Creole while French is the official language with only 10% speaking it. The most involved was the dehydration factor - what can a small child or animal endure before it is too late. The major factor in that was the heat.

I know a little about Haiti because a church I had attended has a mission down there [sadly two of their native teachers were killed in this earthquake]and the terrible conditions that existed even before the earthquake - now the world's eyes on on this small nation and hopefully humanitarian efforts will go into play and foreign governments won't have a hand in dictating outcomes. That last might be fantasy.

I wanted to make this a tribute to the common people...Paula

thank you for your comments - our stories are meant to touch a child's heart and humor. This book does not have as much humor in it as the previous ones but then being buried under rubble is serious. I am glad you like this story....Paula
