Mansfield Park is the third novel by Jane Austen. Mansfield Park is a pygmalion morality epic. The events of the story are put in motion by three sisters: Lady Bertram, Mrs. Norris, and Mrs. Price. Of the three sisters, Lady Bertram married extremely well, to a wealthy baronet; Mrs. Norris married a parson, who is given the living at the local parsonage by Sir Thomas Bertram, Lady Betram's husband. This allows them to live comfortably, yet far below the standards set by the Bertram's lifestyle. The third sister married a naval officer who shortly afterwards was wounded in battle and pensioned as a Lieutenant at half pay. They then proceeded to have nine children, which they could scarcely afford. Mrs. Norris, always wishing to appear to do right, proposes that Lady Bertram take one of the children to live with her at Mansfield Park. They choose Fanny Price, the eldest daughter, who is the protagonist of the novel. Thus, at age 10, Fanny is sent to live with her wealthy relatives. Mansfield Park is the most controversial of Austen's major novels. Regency critics praised the novel's wholesome morality, but many modern readers find Fanny's timidity and disapproval of the theatricals difficult to sympathize with and reject the idea (made explicit in the final chapter) that she is a better person for the relative privations of her childhood. Jane Austen's own mother thought Fanny "insipid", and many other readers have found her priggish and unlikeable. Other critics point out that she is a complex personality, perceptive yet given to wishful thinking, and that she shows courage and grows in self-esteem during the latter part of the story. Austen biographer Claire Tomalin, who is generally rather critical of Fanny, argues that "it is in rejecting obedience in favour of the higher dictate of remaining true to her own conscience that Fanny rises to her moment of heroism." But Tomalin reflects the ambivalence that many readers feel towards Fanny when she also writes: "More is made of Fanny Price's faith, which gives her the courage to resist what she thinks is wrong; it also makes her intolerant of sinners, whom she is ready to cast aside." I have come to realize that I spent most of my life sleeping, this was an eerie feeling. I thought I knew who I was; I saw how my life was just a lie. I was not being the person that I pictured in my mind, it took inner work to become my best self. I needed to challenge my perception of myself and the world outside. I found myself experiencing higher consciousness as I journeyed deeper internally, my external reality was all an illusion, and that the only thing that is true is what’s within. I continued my quest because I wanted to experience spiritual enlightenment. Working on healing my chakras, I began to see how my pain and ignorance was the cause of my attractions and my life’s outcome. Two women from different backgrounds are both exposed to incest. One is accused, finding it morally repugnant, but would surrender to it, while the other seeing nothing wrong with it, desires it. They both have a strong sexual desire and in seek it out, each in their own ways. In the study of Deviance Sociology, an interesting subject of which there are several theories, deviant behavior is not universally the same everywhere. Murder is generally considered immoral but not if it is done by the government when perceived it's for the benefit of the greater good. This is true within some religions, such as so-called honor killings. Which means that social culture plays a large role in the development of social norms within a society. Deviance defines moral boundaries, and people learn right from wrong by defining people as deviant. Deviance can push society's moral boundaries, which, in turn leads to social change. Incest is one deviance of the most widespread of all cultural taboos, both in present and in many past societies. Most modern societies have laws regarding incest. However, it is not as taboo in other places around the world. More liberal are The Netherlands, France, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden. Research indicates that 46% of children who are raped are victims of family members. The majority of American rape victims (61%) are raped before the age of 18; furthermore, 29% of all rapes occurred when the victim was less than 11 years old. Eleven percent were rape by their fathers or step-father, and another 16% are raped by other relatives. Our culture, and behavioral environment have much to say who we are, end up being. In one study of victims of father-daughter incest, showed some 'common features' within the families before the occurrence of incest where, estrangement between the mother and the daughter, extreme paternal dominance, and reassignment of some of the mother's traditional major family responsibility to the daughter. Older and only daughters were more likely to be the victims of incest. It was also stated that the incest experience was psychologically harmful to the woman in later years, frequently leading to feelings of low self-esteem, very unhealthy sexual activity, contempt for other women, and other emotional problems. In this story, we see how being accused of incest and being victim of multiple rapes affects the behavior and life of one woman.
