Shaun Watson-Smith (born 6 February 1970 in Port Elizabeth) is a South African racing driver who has mainly raced in Touring Cars. He first entered the national production car championship in 1991, winning the overall championship a year later in 1992. In 1994 he got a works drive for the Opel team, helping to develop the new car. He was class B champion in 1995 driving his Opel two litre Astra and also won his debut race in the South African Touring Car Championship. After finishing third in class in 1996, he went on to dominate the championship winning the title in 1997 and 1998. In 1999 he drove in the South African Touring Car Championship, finishing tenth on points in a Petronas Opel Vectra. He went on to finish second in the final full year of the championship. From 2001 through to 2003, he raced in the WesBank V8 Series, driving an Opel Astra. He never raced a full season, but won several selected races that he drove in.
In 2004 he got his big break in the British Touring Car Championship driving a works Proton Impian for Petronas Syntium Proton, alongside team mate Fariqe Hairuman. He impressed many people with his driving and pace that season, but the team was under-funded and the car was well off the pace of the other works teams. He placed fourteenth on points and at the end of the season Proton withdrew from the championship and he returned to South Africa. [more]

The Town At Once Became Of Vital Interest To Us. We Spent Months And
Years Going Through Every Vacant Building Into Which We Could Force An
Entrance. Our Setter Dogs Could Point An Empty Doorway As Well As A
Covey Of Quail, And Seemed As Curious About The Interiors As We Were
Ourselves. I Became Obsessed With A Desire To Know The Age Of These
Buildings And Something Of Those Early Alexandrians Who Had Lived In
Them.
Old Maps And Records Littered My Desk. Out Of The Past Appeared Clerks
On High Stools Wielding Quill Pens And Inscribing Beautiful Script For
Me To Transpose Into The Story Of One Of America'S Most Romantic And
Historic Towns. It Has Been Impossible To Write About Every House In
Alexandria--Even About Every Historic House. I Tried To Recall The Old
Town As A Whole. A Succession Of Hatters, Joiners, Ships' Carpenters,

An Embryo Surveyor Carrying The Chain To Plot The Streets And Lots. He
Was Dancing At The Balls, Visiting The Young Ladies, Drilling The
Militia, Racing Horses, Launching Vessels, Engaging Workmen, Dining At
This House Or That, Importing Asses, Horses, And Dogs, Running For
Office, Sitting As Justice; Sponsoring The Friendship Fire Company, A
Free School, The Alexandria Canal, Or Other Civic Enterprises. He Was
Pewholder Of Christ Church And Master Of The Masonic Lodge. To Town He
Came To Collect His Mail, To Cast His Ballot, To Have His Silver Or His
Carriage Repaired, To Sell His Tobacco Or His Wheat, To Join The
Citizenry In Celebrating Independence. His Closest Friends And Daily
Companions Were Alexandrians. The Dwellings, Wharves, And Warehouses Of

ARGUMENT Hrothgar, king of the Danes, lives happily and peacefully, and bethinks him to build a glorious hall called Hart. But a little after, one Grendel, of the kindred of the evil wights that are come of Cain, hears the merry noise of Hart and cannot abide it; so he enters thereinto by night, and slays and carries off and devours thirty of Hrothgar's thanes. Thereby he makes Hart waste for twelve years, and the tidings of this mishap are borne wide about lands. Then comes to the helping of Hrothgar Beowulf, the son of Ecgtheow, a thane of King Hygelac of the Geats, with fourteen fellows. They are met on the shore by the land-warder, and by him shown to Hart and the stead of Hrothgar, who receives them gladly, and to whom Beowulf tells his errand, that he will help him against Grendel. They feast in the hall, and one Unferth, son of Ecglaf, taunts Beowulf through jealousy that he was outdone by Breca in swimming. Beowulf tells the true tale thereof. And a little after, at nightfall, Hrothgar and his folk leave the hall Hart, and it is given in charge to Beowulf, who with his Geats abides there the coming of Grendel. Soon comes Grendel to the hall, and slays a man of the Geats, hight Handshoe, and then grapples with Beowulf, who will use no weapon against him: Grendel feels himself over-mastered and makes for the door, and gets out, but leaves his hand and arm behind him with Beowulf: men on the wall hear the great noise of this battle and the wailing of Grendel. In the morning the Danes rejoice, and follow the bloody slot of Grendel, and return to Hart racing and telling old tales, as of Sigemund and the Worm. Then come the king and his thanes to look on the token of victory, Grendel's hand and arm, which Beowulf has let fasten: to the hall-gable. The king praises Beowulf and rewards him, and they feast in Hart, and the tale of Finn and Hengest is told. Then Hrothgar leaves Hart, and so does Beowulf also with his Geats, but the Danes keep guard there. In the night comes in Grendel's Mother, and catches up Aeschere, a thane of Hrothgar, and carries him off to her lair. Duncan had expected a better show, piles of slow burnt ash and ample displays of flash-trash, objet d’tective: a gun, warm, though not still smoking, courtesy of Messers Smith and Wesson; knuckledusters, spotted with blood and tarnished with wear and abuse; handcuffs on the desk to be jingled and jangled at flat spots in the conversation; and there would be mug shots of criminals most vile, poor haircuts, bent and broken noses and distinguishing tattoos; a coffee crusted mug and food scraps, potato chips and various fluorescent colours of pizza toppings would brighten the desktop and floor; and where were the pornographic photographs, open files and fingerprint kits, the magnifying glass, the fucking detective stuff!?
