Seven-year-old Tom Brown wanted nothing more than to live happily with his mother who loves him very much
(despite his impish nature and peculiar, if not troublesome impish gifts), but his mother is unable to stay out of trouble. This time it is not her fault. An Italian mobster has set his sights on Tom’s mother. In order to escape this nasty man’s clutches, Tom uses all his impish abilities and connections to haunt the Family, and arrange for the NYPD to uncover the crimes of the mob family. Unfortunately, his mother is arrested by association, and Tom ends up in the foster system for two years. Tom goes from house to house, gets a juvie record, and has various troubles and adventures in these two years including: dealing with abusive foster parents, handling child molesters, living with an actress and dancing on Broadway, going to a posh upstate New York private school, meeting Randon Spade and helping him, and rescuing a missing child in a snowstorm. Tom only hopes that when he is able to get back with his mother that they will finally have a normal life.
