Francis Scott MacNutt (born 1925[1]) is a former American Roman Catholic priest. Associated with the Catholic Charismatic Renewal[1] he is an author of books on healing prayer, including Healing, The Healing Reawakening and Deliverance from Evil Spirits. MacNutt grew up in St. Louis, Missouri.[2] He earned a B.A. degree from Harvard University in 1948, and a M.A. degree in speech and drama from The Catholic University of America, Washington.[3] In 1950, MacNutt joined the Dominican Order and was ordained to the priesthood in 1956.[2][1] He has a Ph.D. degree in theology.[4] He taught at a seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, for several years before moving back to St Louis in 1966 to become executive director of the National Catholic Preaching Conference.[3] [more]

Mary Ann Evans (1819–1880, also "Mary Anne" or "Marian"), known by her pen name George Eliot, was an English novelist, journalist, translator and one of the leading writers of the Victorian era. Middlemarch, is her seventh novel, begun in 1869 and then put aside during the final illness of Thornton Lewes, the son of her companion George Henry Lewes. During the following year Eliot resumed work, fusing together several stories into a coherent whole, and during 1871–72 the novel appeared in serial form. The first one-volume edition was published in 1874, and attracted large sales. The novel is set in the fictitious Midlands town of Middlemarch during the period 1830–32. It has multiple plots with a large cast of characters, and in addition to its distinct though interlocking narratives it pursues a number of underlying themes, including the status of women, the nature of marriage, idealism and self-interest, religion and hypocrisy, political reform, and education.
