What is Granny Square?

The granny square is a traditional crochet design. It is composed of fundamental crochet stitches, such as the chain stitch and double crochet stitch. It is simple to identify a granny square by its square form and lacy texture.

I like this design because it produces granny squares that lie flat. I use chain-3 spacing at the corners to keep them square rather than rounded. (This will make seaming the grannies simpler in the future.)
