Men's Turtleneck Sweater Pattern

 

 

 

Sizes 36 – 38 – 40 – 42 – 44

 

Materials Required:

 

AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED

Size 36—20 ozs. Beige or color desired

Size 38—23 ozs.

Size 40—26 ozs.

Size 42—29 ozs.

Size 44—32 ozs.

1 pr. each knitting needles No. 3 and No. 5

1 set double pointed needles No. 5

 

Gauge: 5½ sts = 1 inch.

 

Directions are given for size 36. Sizes 38, 40, 42, and 44 are given in brackets.

 

BACK: On No. 3 needles cast on 100 (106, 112, 118, 124) sts and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 3½ inches. Change to No. 5 needles and work in stockinette st (K 1 row, P 1 row) until back measures 15 (15½, 16, 16½, 17) inches from the beginning. Next 2 Rows—Bind off 6 sts at the beginning of each row, then decrease 1 st on each side every other row until 78 (84, 90, 96, 102) sts remain on needle. Work even until armhole measures 8½ (8¾, 9, 9¼, 9½) inches from 1st decreasing point. Next 4 Rows—Bind off 13 (14, 15, 16, 17) sts at the begin­ning of each row for shoulders. Place remaining 26 (28, 30, 32, 34) sts on a holder for back of neck.

 

FRONT: On No. 3 needles cast on 100 (106, 112, 118, 124) sts and work same as back to underarm. Shape armhole same as back armhole. Work even until armhole measures 6½ (6¾, 7, 7¼, 7½) inches from 1st decreasing point ending on right side of work. Next Row—Work across 32 (34, 36, 38, 40) sts, place next 14 (16, 18, 20, 22) sts on a holder for front neck line, tie in another ball of yarn and working both sides at same time, work across remaining 32 (34, 36, 38, 40) sts. Then bind off 2 sts at neck edge every other row until 26 (28, 30, 32, 34) sts remain on each side. Work even until armhole measures same as back armhole. Bind off shoulders same as back shoulders.

 

SLEEVES: On No. 3 needles cast on 52 (56, 60, 64, 68) sts and work in ribbing for 3½ inches. Change to No. 5 needles and work in stockinette st increasing 1 st on each side every ¾ inch until there are 82 (86, 90, 94, 98) sts on needle. Work even until sleeve measures 19 (20, 21, 22, 23) inches from the beginning. Next 2 Rows—Bind off 6 sts at the beginning of each row, then decrease 1 st on each side every other row until 42 (46, 50, 54, 58) sts remain on needle. Next 8 Rows—Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of each row. Bind off remaining 26 (30, 34, 38, 42) sts. Block each section. Sew seams and sew sleeves in position.

 

NECK BAND: On double pointed needles, slip and K 26 (28, 30, 32, 34) sts from holder at back of neck, pick up and K 30 sts on left side of neck, slip and K 14 (16, 18, 20, 22) sts from holder at front of neck, pick up and K 30 sts on right side of neck, 100 (104, 108, 112, 116) sts. Work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 7 inches. Bind off loosely in ribbing.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

 

Columbia-Minerva Knitting Worsted (4 oz skein) - 5(6-6-7) skeins

 

OR

 

Columbia-Minerva Calypso Germantown Knitting Worsted (2 or 4 oz skein) - 22(24-26-28) ozs

 

Knitting Needles: 1 pair each "Boye" Sizes 5 and 9, 1 "Boye" cable needle and 1 set "Boye" double point needles Size 5

 

Gauge: Stockinette Stitch on Size 9 needles - 4½ sts to 1 inch; 6 rows to 1 inch

 

BACK: With Size 5 needles cast on 98(102-106-110) sts. Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 3 inches. Change to Size 9 needles and work in pat as follows: Row 1 - Right side: On Size 42 only K 1, P 1, on all Sizes * K 2, P 1 *, repeat from * to * 6(6-6-7) times more, sl next 5 sts onto cable needle and hold in back, K next 5 sts, then K the 5 sts from cable needle for cable twist, P 1, K 34(38-38-40), P 1, twist cable on next 10 sts, ** P 1, K 2 **, repeat from ** to ** to end of row, on Size 42 only ending P 1, K 1. Row 2: On Size 42 only P 1, K 1, on all Sizes * P 2, K 1 *, repeat from * to * 6(6-6-7) times more, P 10, K 1, P 34(38- 38-40), K 1, P 10, ** K 1, P 2 **, repeat from ** to ** to end of row, on Size 42 only ending K 1, P 1. Row 3: Same as Row 1 omitting the cable twist. Row 4: Same as Row 2. Rows 5 through 14: Repeat Rows 3 and 4. Repeat these 14 rows for pat. Work until back meas­ures 14½(14½-15-15) inches or desired length from start.
