The NS regime tried at least in the spring to give the appearance of legality, while behind the facade of this apparent legality there was already terror and sheer arbitrariness. This endeavor was also pursued vis-à-vis foreign countries, until the Olympic Summer Games in 1936 were held, by being cosmopolitan, tolerant and peaceful. Only then did the gradual unmasking take place and the Nazi dictatorship showed its terrible grimace.
