This was Wendy's reply to my thanking her: I have been anxious to know how you took my comments. I am glad you are okay with it.
And do you know what? You gave me more insight in these few lines than you did over 46 pages:

When I wrote Lewy vs Al, I was in a perpetual state of shock and yeah ten years in 46 pages is compressing all the life out of the life - pages were in fact nights I was able to actually sit and type and I needed the writing to retain my sanity.

The most important part of living this time was snatching my husband back out of the jaws of misdiagnosis on his greased skid into the grave but I do want to revise the portions of the nights in'hell' and yes, let people know getting sick is not for the wimps...

I appreciate getting your feedback. When I was waffling with parts of Mandy The Alpha Dog, I took it to one of my librarian friends and she came back with the same criticism that was riding in my thoughts.

There's Something Strange...

Thank you for taking the time to do this for me. I didn't know who I needed until the thread in the serious writers {I'm going to post this answer there/here too}

Well, we talked about me coming over and giving you a good trashing. I just wish it hadn't have been this one, considering the content.

Before i proceed, may I mention that I am drawing these conclusions based on my own experience of writing MY memoirs and that I am going to be really harsh with you, because you've done here exactly what i did...

You went and omitted the emotion, Paula.

This reads like a diary without dates, and it wouldn't surprise me that you wrote a lot of it from records you kept, like a diary of sorts, or letters, and you took the information from them and placed it onto these pages.

As you know, when people go through challenges like this, they go into survival mode. I can tell from the way you have penned this book that you played your part of wife the 'Rock' very well, for the sake of your husband and family.

This comes across very clearly to me in this account, because like you, when I went through things that tested me to the extreme, I also maintained a solid stance, so that I could support the people around me, often forgetting about my own emotions.

I really don't think you can do what you have attempted here in 46 pages. 46 pages might skim the surface, but you need another 300 or so to really tell us what happened in your life at that time.

In a nut shell i think you've sold yourself short and I for one would really love to see the gaps filled in and the real Paula brought to the fore.

This story needs to be taken apart. The notes you have kept should be used only for reference with regards to the story plan and dates etc, and you should start again.

In support of you, I must tell you that I am at a point in my life where i feel capable of writing my memoirs from a technical viewpoint, but I told myself a few years ago that i would only write about it when i felt the time was right. I don't think that time will come for many years yet.

When I do decide to write them up, (bearing in mind, I binned the first draft), when I pick up my pen to begin, I want to be able to let-rip; really put my cards on the table, tell the reader exactly what it was like with no holds barred.

This is what you should be going for, because you've lived it and you should be aiming to give the reader an insight into what living with Al is all about on a more personal level. There will be many out there who will relate, I'm sure.

The other thing I missed from the story was your humour. I can imagine you sharing many special moments with your husband in-between the bad times, so where are they?

I've gone to town here and I've told you what I think without any frills. I hope that i haven't offended you in any way, but I'm guessing I won't have. You've a strong lady and you've got guts.

Dearest Paula

I am so sorry it has taken me this long to read your personal journey of courage. Perhaps I knew it would be emotionally devastating and that is why I avoided it. However, today I read your struggles and am so in awe of your strength. There are some of us who luckily sail through life with few real tests, and others like you who have to fight. Life is not fair and the best people often are those who have to suffer the most. My heart goes out to you, together with my admiration and empathy. God bless you.

I wrote the portion on the detoxification as we were going through it....it was my link to sanity.

Its been over a month since you read and commented - I am still, to a certain extent, dealing with problems due to this condition...truly appreciate the feedback, ghorawatv...Paula

I think of our dogs as furry kids - that is why it is so easy to write the K-9 series...and I too had one like Snoopy - he is now the most staid of the three of my sons....
