I enjoyed reading this. I felt the Sri Lankan countryside shining through in your description of the little boy getting into mischief by the river. I think this is the best bit of the story. You go on to relate all the important events in his life, which is interesting, but I think that to really bring the story to life you could show us more of your father's personality. Maybe tell us about his hopes, thoughts, feelings as he was growing up, so that the reader can relate to him and become interested in him as a character. Very good writing though. Keep at it!
