I enjoyed reading the first chapter. It is light and a refreshing read. Perhaps consider adding something with a touch of unpleasant about it to keep things balanced. You write in the present. That can present problems especially in talking about the past. Othewise I say well done. And if illustrated I wonder how the story might spring alive. Consider . but it is only a thought of mine.

Now that I'm finished, I'm mad that it's over. It takes a good book to get me riled up, so, it's a compliment for sure.

Man, I usually don't use language as 'primitive' as this, but...flipping awesome dude! I felt exactly like the phrase above, minus all the dark parts. I instantly knew I was going to like and I haven't even read past the first paragraph.
