A heartwarming tale. Very well told.

A couple of things....

You had a blip on page 14 for some reason.
'Me either' should be 'me neither'.
'Relief flooded them' - ?
'Struggled to not fear' - ?

I wasn't keen on the asterisks between the two POV's. I always think that a swap of POV like that should be dealt with in one's writing and then include a couple of line spaces.

I'm not saying its wrong to do what you've done there, but i would have preferred the passover between the worldly and the outer-worldly to be defined with good writing.

Nevertheless, a poignant tale, written with love and a little bit of first-hand experience I dare say.
